Continued praise for Carbonite for Mac

Our Mac product, which launched earlier this year, continues to receive a good reception from the media.

We've recently had reviews published with MacFormat and MacWorld magazines.

Christopher Phin from MacFormat awarded Carbonite 4/5 stars and appreciated our efforts to design a Mac version of the product:

Unlike many companies that have developed a PC application and then gone on to make a Mac version, the developers genuinely seem to have 'got' the Mac."

MacWorld magazine also awarded Carbonite 4/5 stars. Karl Hodge noted how the low cost is small price to pay for piece of mind.

The client is highly configurable and can be set to run when it's convenient. Costing around £3 a month to run, it's a low price for a little peace of mind."

Carbonite gets a 5-Star Review from IT Reviewed

We just got another 5-star review, this one in IT Reviewed, an important online magazine for IT professionals and technorati. We really appreciate it when reviewers ask a lot of questions and do their homework. This writer, Chris Harris, really appreciated our ease-of-use.

If you've decided to use an online backup service, Carbonite is the best in the business. There are many positive points that the service provides including ease of use, the security of off-site storage, and low cost. There's no better online solution than Carbonite. Its hand-holding approach and close integration with Windows makes it accessible to all.

Carbonite for Mac reviewed by Pocket-lint.com

Our Mac version of Carbonite is still pretty new, but we just got a very good review from
Pocket-lint.com, a very influential news and review site.

The reviewer noted the ease of use, the simplicity of the restore process, and the unobtrusiveness of Carbonite when it's running. The author also points out some of the advantages of online backup over a local external hard drive using Time Machine. If you're a Mac user, you may want to take a look at this review.

Carbonite receives praise from the UK media

I wanted to share some great press that Carbonite has gotten lately from the UK. First, Web User , a popular UK magazine, gave us the publication's top Gold Award and 5/5 stars. We beat out all the usual competitors for the Gold.

In addition to the Gold Award at Web User magazine, we also got kudos from The National Student Guide, Raising Kids, UK Family and Sixtyplusurfers. The staff at Sixtyplusurfers are big fans of Carbonite and have used the service themselves commenting: "I thoroughly advise everyone to use Carbonite. Both myself and Murray [publication editor] at Sixtyplusurfers subscribe to the service and would never be without it. Constantly saving all your work, data, pictures and all your important documents, the service is simple to use and unobtrusive."

We were also named by Tech Radar as one of the 15 best file synching apps on the planet at number seven.

CEO of Simply Offsite Reviews (and Recommends) Carbonite

I wanted to bring to your attention another very nice review of Carbonite. This one, by Mike, at Simply Offsite is thoughtful and balanced, IMHO. In the comments on his blog, I did try to explain why it's very hard for Carbonite to have an "estimated time to completion" indication for the initial backup like some other backup services do. The reason, in short, is that Carbonite allocates bandwidth dynamically so that it never interferes with your browsing. If you're using the Internet for other things, Carbonite will automatically slow down to get out of the way. So we can't tell you how long your backup is going to take because it depends on whether you'll be using your computer in the meantime. Other backup services transfer data at a steady pace. So while that makes the backup time predictable, it also means that your computer is going to feel really sluggish while the backup is going on – not a good thing.
