Canadian organizations using CarboniteTM Safe Server Backup now have the option to back up server data to a cloud data center located inside Canada's borders.
The new cloud backup location addresses the needs of Canadian companies that are bound by industry compliance mandates or laws—like the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)—that may require them to store backup data inside Canada.
Carbonite Safe Server Backup users in Canada previously had two options: Store your backed-up data in the United States or the European Union. The addition of a cloud backup center in Canada means that Canadian customers can now protect the files, databases and applications they depend on while maintaining their commitment to regulatory compliance.
Backing up your data inside Canadian borders is simple. All you need to do is select "Canada" from the dropdown list when choosing your cloud backup target as shown below:

Data backed up with Carbonite is encrypted using 128-bit encryption and sent over a secure TLS (Transport Layer Security) connection. The data remains encrypted during transmission and again in storage. For added protection, Carbonite’s business plan customers can choose to set up their own 256-bit private key encryption.
Additionally, all Carbonite data centers are guarded by on-site security officers and are physically secure with protective measures that include restricted access using biometric scanners, electronic key cards and PIN codes.
