Cyber threats are a constant challenge for organizations, with a recent ESG survey showing:
- 79% experienced a ransomware incident within the last year1
- 73% indicated that the attack was successful1
This nets out to 58% of organizations were impacted by a successful ransomware attack in the last year.
But too many small and medium businesses (SMBs) are lured into a false sense of security thinking they won’t be a target. In fact, ransomware is mainly a small and medium business problem: 71.9% of companies impacted by ransomware are SMBs (11 to 1,000 employees).2
To combat cyber threats, organizations need to implement a cyber resilience strategy that embeds security and data management solutions and best practices across the business ecosystem.
ESG insight: an integrated approach to cyber resilience
In a recent ESG white paper, Effective Cyber Resiliency: A Comprehensive Approach to Ransomware Preparedness with Carbonite Data Protection, <insert link> they highlight that businesses need to plan that breaches will occur. Businesses must take the necessary steps to incorporate the processes, best practices and tools to prepare for an attack. But it doesn’t stop there – ESG says they also need to learn how to respond and recover from a cyberattack, including ransomware.
To better manage their cybersecurity solutions, ESG reports that businesses are looking for an integrated approach to cyber resilience. The top three factors that businesses consider are:
- Reducing the number of vendors. Businesses report the various challenges of managing multiple vendors are difficulty with separate training (45%), lack of a complete picture of security status (36%) and not enough staff to manage the technologies (30%)3
- Achieving greater product integration. 85% respondents indicated it was either important or critical to integrate their solutions.
- Work with respected partners. Vendors’ cybersecurity expertise and reputation were the most significant factor listed by 34% of respondents.
As small and medium-sized businesses address these cybersecurity challenges, investing in the right solution will help organizations respond quickly to threats, minimize the damage, restore normal operations quickly and maintain security posture to be compliant.
Data Protection as part of your cyber resilience strategy
Data protection is a balancing act between the need to protect data and the need to protect access to it. The trick lies with deploying the right protection across the different systems and types of data. IT pros need confidence that the protection they deploy can:
- Restore business data quickly and reliably
- Store and transmit data securely
- Extend protection as environments change
- Provide long-term survivability of historical data
